The Winning Dream

We’re happy to announce that Katie has won our dream contest! She wins a pair of tickets to Midsummer next week!  Here is her dream:

When I was a kid, I had a dream that I was stuck in the video game Simon’s Quest. (Yeah, the old 8-bit system. Gasp! Look at me showing my age!) If you’re not familiar, it’s a kill-the-vamps and other supernatural critters type game. As I used a largely ineffectual whip to vaporize werewolves and ghouls, I became more tired and scared - I knew I could not survive long.
Then the scene of the dream changed, and I was standing in the playroom of the house I grew up in. My brother was playing Simon’s Quest, with me as the lead character. I yelled to him, begging him to turn off the Nintendo. I told him he was about to kill me. He completely ignored me. As is usually the case in dreams like these, I wasn’t able to move, so I was unable to shut the game system down myself. Just as I was about to die in the game, I woke up. Even though I knew it was irrational, I felt pretty annoyed with my brother for the next several days. :)

The Building Of Koka Booth Amphitheatre…

Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheatre, or “KBA” to those of us who’ve been around awhile, is currently in its eleventh year of operation. The Amphitheatre vision began as a dream to create a permanent ‘setting’ for our beloved North Carolina Symphony. Town Council Members, led by Mayor Koka Booth, plotted and planned to build a beautiful structure in which the Symphony would have a permanent stage, the audience would have luscious green grass in which to picnic and the original residents of the area (geese, swan and turtles) would have minimal disturbance.

The dream became a reality in 2001 with the construction of Koka Booth Amphitheatre. The Amphitheatre architects were William Rawn and Associates out of Boston, MA. Their futuristic design incorporates a variety of building materials including aluminum skylight system, translucent laminated glass, perforated panels, Alaskan Pine, split face block, lead coated copper roofing and bluestone. To cap off the structure you’ll see steel columns adorned with decorative seagulls soaring over the stage canopy.

The grass in the Amphitheatre is Zoysia which thrives in the hot summer heat and is easily maintained while entertaining over 100,000 visitors each year.

The towering pines, Symphony lake and our summer geese play a part in the enchanting landscape of the venue and are perfect cast mates to our Midsummer Nights!

We invite you to experience our open air space next week for a performance of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. Pack your picnic, bring your lawn chair/blanket and enjoy a Masterpiece production performed on the Triangles BEST stage!
